I was very much mad at myself for missing the movicamp and blogcamp held within the past month due to exams. But luckily for me, I got an opportunity to watch this show. It was organised by Image™, Kollam and it came along with the tag ‘The Biggest Animation & VFX Show’. Though it was far from being the biggest, it was a good show.

Professionals from Dreamworks (Bangalore), CGTantra and Prime Focus were present showing us the possible limitless boundaries of animation and VFX. First, there was an intro on CGTantra by Mr. Rishab. CGTantra is a community for digital grafix artists where the members comment, suggest, criticize the work of fellow designers and there are a lot of tutorials, interviews, coverage etc. Just checkout their site.

Mr. Vivek Ram from Dreamworks India showed us his amazing artwork of Lord Ram drawn with using a combo of Photoshop, 3ds MAX and Z-Brush. That was one amazing materpeice. You can check the rest of his work in his blog.

Then we had two professionals from Prime Focus showing us the integration of VFX in ads nowadays and how it was 10 years ago. They showed us many ads and the best of them were the Behind the scenes and making of the Happydent chewing gum ad and the climax scene of the movie Swordfish.

It is very amazing to see how much of fantasy can be added into a video. Afterall, I realised that it is does pay to dream. :D

Abhinav Bindra, at the age of 25, did something which each and every Indian wanted to do. He won a gold medal at the Olympics in the 10 metre air pistol event, which incidentally is India’s first ever individual medal at the Olympics. The day (August 11, 2008) will go down in history as one of India’s biggest achievements in sports. Well done Abhinav! Some complain that his medal victory is hyped too much but I think otherwise. It is a reason to celebrate and celebrate we will. Anyways, we now know who the flag bearer for India would be at London 2012.
Abhinav qualified for the final round with a 2 point deficit on the leader which is a big margin in shooting. But he did a superb final round to clinch the gold. What I liked most about this man was his composure on winning. He is just 25 but has shown the maturity even pros don’t. He was cool, calm and just smiled and never went into hyper mode. When the National Anthem played behind him, his pride and joy was evidend. I was so happy that I skipped studying for today’s exam for an hour or two. Abhinav has set the bar and now it is up to the other members of Indian contingent to match it.

So my congrats Abhinav Bindra and all the very best to the Indian Team at Beijing 2008.

I was browsing through IndiaFM, when I saw a remark from the editor about the promo of the movie Kidnap. The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minnisha Lamba. It is directed by Sanjay Gadhvi (of Dhoom series) and produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision (makers of Jab We Met). I searched YouTube immediately and I found the video there.

The video is stunning. Sanjay Dutt looks slick in expensive suits. Imran Khan looks fantastic as the villain and Minnisha Lamba is gorgeous. The trailer is stylish and fast paced. I can’t explain in words how fantastic it looks. Imran is yet again doing a strong and unconventional role for a new comer. This is one of those rare almost perfect trailers which make you want more of it. Have a look yourself.

Speak Out & Express Yourself

2

Speak Out! Make your voice heard. I happened to meet one of my friends. When I asked him what he was doing, he said that he was doing engineering. But some time back, he would say that he wanted to be a dancer (he was a damn good dancer). He told me back at school, that he would like to join a dance school after +2. It was actually a shock for me when I heard him say that. It seems that his parents forced him into engineering.

I was so shocked because, this friend of mine was the only one who we thought knew what he wanted to become in future. But alas! He too has fallen prey to his parents’ wish.

Why am I writing about this? Just to spread the word around. Guys. Come On. It’s your life. Speak Out. Make your wishes heard. Give your point of view.

People often think what will others think of me if I do this? Will this path be a risk and will I succeed? I have faced these situations when I expressed my wish to be a movie director. I was ridiculed by many but my mother stood by me. She asked me to get a degree first and then pursue my dreams. Unfortunately, all parents are not like this. They think their children would have a happy future if they do a degree course rather than pursue their dreams.

To all, who happen to read this post. If you are a parent, please ask your child what he/she wants to become and then let them choose their future. If you are someone who has been forced to take up a career which you don’t prefer, please speak out. You love/hate someone, speak out. Express yourself

Only you know what you want. You are to live your life. So SPEAK OUT. Speaking out might just change your life. It is your world out there and you have the right to speak. It’s your life. Make it large.

P.S. – My wish to become a director might just come true by God’s grace. Some months from now, I might be directing a short film whose theme is similar to this. It is about a child pushed into engineering.
